Let’s start developing your personalized care plan with a free, no-pressure consultation.

How many of these describe you?

☐ Stuck in survival mode, being driven by fear and unable to fully relax

☐ Secretly dreading each day but having to put on a happy face and pretend like you don’t feel awful inside

☐ Easily upset and wishing you weren’t so sensitive

☐ Confused or unsure about who you really are and what makes you truly happy

☐ Stuck in unhealthy patterns but unable to break them and judging yourself harshly for that

☐ Feeling insecure or unsatisfied in your relationships

All of these are symptoms of unresolved trauma - signs that you’re stuck in survival patterns from the past rather than being your fullest, present-moment self.

I’m Brandon and I’ve been there

I know first-hand the effects of trauma and have focused my career on helping traumatized people finally feel good being themselves. Through extensive training and experience, I’ve developed an approach that

  • Clarifies and respects the adaptations that helped you make the most out of harmful situations and environments - clearing up confusion, blame and shame

  • Builds strengths and coping skills as a first priority - putting you confidently back in the driver's seat with concrete tools to manage stress and triggers

  • Trusts the innate ability of the mind/body to process pain and heal given a safe, supportive environment - finally ending the struggle to fix yourself and bringing in healing that feels natural and lasts

  • Safely heals deep wounds, even if you don't know what caused them or can't remember ever feeling differently - it's possible to move forward without having to solve the mysteries of your past

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In a nutshell, somatic therapy is a talk therapy approach that incorporates body-based awareness and body-based skills into therapy. This gives you more powerful tools for understanding yourself, regaining control and healing. For more information, head over to my Somatic Therapy page.

  • I've helped clients heal from: physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect, religious trauma, narcissistic and codependent parents, medical trauma, being parentified children, high pressure parents, and more.

  • No. While I’d like to offer in-person sessions, it’s currently not an option for me. However, we can still do great work meeting online.

  • It's true that things will feel different if we're just seeing each other through a screen and I understand if this is a dealbreaker for you. However, the main way we'll help you heal is through working mindfully with emotions and sensations in your body, which can be done effectively anywhere.

I've gone thru this kind of therapy myself - my online sessions were really helpful! Plus, I was glad to save all that driving time and to have my own space for processing afterwards.

  • I don’t take any insurance but your insurance company may reimburse you if you submit a request. More info here

  • I'm open to what works best for you - twice a week, weekly, every other week, once a month or "as-needed." However, for best results I would recommend at least trying out once a week and adjusting from there.

Why Just Talking About Trauma Doesn’t Work

Talking about traumatic events doesn’t usually resolve trauma because the parts most affected by trauma (Emotional Brain and Survival Brain) aren’t accessible via our normal thought processes (Logical Brain). Talking about trauma can, however, trigger these traumatized parts and result in the nervous system getting overwhelmed and re-traumatized. Additionally, many people don't fully remember what happened - the missing pieces are held by other parts of the brain and body.

The best way to work with trauma is through the body in a gentle way that follows intuitive impulses and avoids getting overwhelmed. These are the four main steps:

  1. Preparation: Before we go in to resolve trauma and PTSD, we first want to feel confident in your ability to calm down if you start to feel overwhelmed and come back to the moment if you start to dissociate. In the therapy world we call this “regulating your nervous system” and together we’ll experiment to find what works for you and helps you feel in control.

  2. Discovery: Once you’re feeling prepared, we’ll begin exploring the body’s memory of your trauma. If you have explicit memories of the trauma, we can use those to evoke the related body memory but they aren’t necessary. Our goal is to get in tune with the trauma residual left in your body one little bit at a time and in way that is not overwhelming. We may also discover incomplete defensive actions that wanted to happen to protect yourself during the trauma but never got the chance.

  3. Healing: Once we discover a body memory that needs to be processed, we’ll use mindfulness to follow sensations, impulses, and sense memories as they arise. Mindfulness facilitates the natural healing process of the body — it wants to resolve the trauma and just needs us to be present for the process. Often times a sensation or impulse will lead us to an incomplete survival action stuck in the body. Letting these complete on their own is a key in letting your body realize it is now safe.

  4. Integration: Once our body tells us we are now safe, we experience a new level of connection with ourselves and a difference in how it feels to be in our body. We will mindfully track this change to ensure it is fully integrated within all our brain systems — logical, emotional and survival - so the fragmented pieces can be unified once again. We’ll also explore how to bring this change with you into everyday life.
